Fisker Brings Cinema to Your Dash With Rotating 'Hollywood' Infotainment Screen

Fisker Brings Cinema to Your Dash With Rotating ‘Hollywood’ Infotainment Screen

The Fisker Ocean EV goes Hollywood with a center screen that rotates so you can watch movies while you charge.

An in-car screen that can rotate to give you the ideal layout for driving, and then a perfect place to watch TV or movies? That’s exactly what automaker Fisker is claiming to offer in its upcoming Fisker Ocean electric crossover. The 17.1-inch screen is called Revolve, and Fisker says it will revolutionize (pardon their pun) the in-car touchscreen.

The Fisker Ocean electric crossover was first revealed to the world at the Los Angeles Auto Show back in 2019. The production version was revealed at the LA show in late 2021.

We understand why production of the Ocean, which was set to start late last year, was delayed, but what does surprise us is that Fisker is still showing us new features of the vehicle we haven’t seen before. Like this Revolve dashboard screen. While Fisker had talked about it before, this is the first time we’ve seen it in action.

All Fisker Ocean models will get a massive 17.1-inch touchscreen. The screen shows you the usual navigation and climate control data, and you use it to control many of the Ocean’s settings. Basically, the same thing you’d find in any other car, but bigger.

Top-spec Oceans, the Ocean Extreme, and Ocean One get the Revolve version of the central touchscreen, leaving lesser trims with a fixed version of the display.

The screen has two modes, starting with a portrait mode layout. fisker calls that mode Control. Fitting, because it’s the layout that you use to control the different settings of the vehicle. This is the layout you’re going to want to use when you’re driving.

With the touch of a button, the screen rotates into Hollywood Mode. The physical controls that sit at the bottom of the display in Control Mode are fixed in place, separate from the main display. So, they stay in an easy-to-reach spot.

The result: a 16:9 widescreen display that’s ready to show you movies in (or near) their original aspect ratio. So, you can watch a movie in your Fisker Ocean just like you would at home.

Scratch that, it might be better than how you would watch at home, because Fisker isn’t done yet. The Ocean also comes with a Fisker HyperSound Immersive Audio System that delivers 360 degrees of surround sound.

The system has 500 watts of power, 16 speakers, and a subwoofer, and Fisker claims it has one of the largest six-speaker dashboard arrays in the business.

And the result? A revolution of the EV charging experience as well as the screen. Fisker says you can turn charge-up time into movie time, calling it a cinematic experience.

Embrace the Charge, Even if It’s Fast

Yes, charging is getting faster than ever. It’s also a part of the EV experience that many people would like to ignore. We like when companies embrace it and try to make the experience better.

Take the Hyundai Ioniq 5’s reclining driver’s seat with a footrest for another great example. If you’re going to wait, you might as well be comfortable and entertained.

Fisker calls it movie time, but you’re probably going to experience something closer to “TV time” on the road. That’s because the Fisker Ocean is set to offer Level 3 fast charging at up to 250 kW. Enough to add a couple of hundred miles of range in the same amount of time it takes you to watch that episode of “The Office” for the dozenth time.

Reservations for the Fisker Ocean are still available, The automaker wants $250 to put your name down on the list for one of the EVs, which starts at $37,499. Production is now set to begin later this year, with the first deliveries expected in November.
